Rogers Video no more, time to get an Apple TV device

Are you looking to rent a movie? Apple TV makes the process simple and easy. You also get access to a host of other bonus features. With Rogers Video officially putting an end to their video stores it’s now time for you to consider alternatives. Devices like an ATV can help to mitigate the transition. Straight from Apple’s website “The new Apple TV with 1080p HD gives you access to the best content — blockbuster movies, TV shows, sports, your music and photos and more — right on your widescreen TV. You can even play content from your iOS devices on your TV using AirPlay. Best of all, Apple TV is just $109″. It connects to Netflix, Vimeo, YouTube, WSJ and other services. I’ve had it for 2+ years and have no complaints.

Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States.

An interesting take on Abraham Lincoln. Apparently he was a Vampire Hunter? I am not sure how good the movie will be, but the dialog is quite amazing. Almost inspirational, but I digress. Enjoy the trailer, because for some reason I did!

Finally a gaming device that won’t gather dust

Xbox 360

It’s amazing to see how we consume media. No longer to we care about cable and satellites dishes. Alright, I am exaggerating a bit, but there is a definite shift in the landscape. Gaming devices, like the Xbox 360 and PS3 have now turned into media devices. Microsoft claims that Xbox users are now consuming more music and video content. How long will it last? I suspect that this is a permanent change. We want to consume content on our own schedule. We don’t mind watching old content on Netflix, with the odd sprinkle of updated series.  We want Hulu and streaming radio. We want to watch sports on-demand. We are seeing people spend hours online searching YouTube and watching homemade content. I imagine that we may start to see a run on people simply buying these devices for media. With Roku, AppleTV, and other devices doing so well the only winners maybe broadband providers. The times are definitely changing and advertisers better figure out quickly where they fit in the new media device world.

Website posts an open letter to Walt Disney Studios regarding John Carter

John Carter of Mars

I have placed a link to an open letter to Disney Studios. They have definitely done a poor marketing job with the John Carter film.

What I find more interesting is the box office numbers, when comparing The Hunger Games to John Carter. Internationally John Carter did not do so badly, albeit it could have done better. What’s odd is there is no love for the Hunger Games internationally. The box-office for The Hunger Games is mainly domestic. Does this tell us something about our taste for film in North America, versus others around the world?

John Carter of Mars – A Great Movie in Hard Times

John Carter, Warlord of Mars

Although John Carter is a great movie,  it seems that high production movie’s must be able to make Avatar like dollars at the box office. John Carter is actually doing well, if you take into account overseas totals. Currently running at $182,571,393, as of today, it is actually running ahead of The Lorax. What is the issue? Like movie’s, such as The Golden Compass, John Carter seems to have a larger global appeal. Unfortunately, in North America, media has declared John Carter one of the biggest flops. It will probably be far from the truth. The movie itself is action packed and has a great story line. For those who read John Carter, before seeing the movie, they will know that it is an excellent series. At issue is North American, in particular U.S, taste. For some reason they are just not flocking to the theatre to see John Carter. With the Hunger Games in release, it’s unfortunate that it may simply get lost in the shuffle. The first trailer, in my opinion, was the best one. I’d urge anyone to take a second look at John Carter. We have to realize that the world does not revolve around the U.S alone.

Are you drooling yet? New Alien prequel Prometheus hits the Internet and wow!

Well, the first trailer left Science Fiction fans wondering and waiting. With a fast-moving trailer, giving only hints of its meaning, the entire Internet was wroth with ideas and questions. Now, with the new trailer released it seems that we now have a better idea on what to expect. It is set in the year 2085, and was initially a prequel to the Alien franchise. However, according to Ridley Scott, it has morphed into something else; as he has decided to explore other aspects of the Alien franchise. This trailer clearly shows what is known as the “Space Jockey“. The trailer looks incredibly intense and full of action; with the terror of the original Alien movie. It will be interesting to see what this movie does in the box office this year.

For those wanting a bit more mystery check out the TED viral video, spreading around the Internet. It is related to the Alien prequel and shows Peter Weyland.

The name “Prometheus” comes from Greek mythology and it is definitely related to the movie. It maybe a good idea to read up about him and how it may relate to the movie coming out this summer.

Super 8 and awesome I hope?

I have been patiently anticipating the release of Super 8. I still have absolutely no idea what the movie is actually about. Is it science fiction, fantasy, a thriller, an action or a horror flick? It’s hard to really know. What really gets me high hopes are seen through the clips I have already seen. Visions of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. and a modern adventure seem to encompass this feature films trailers. I worry that they may all be some marketing ploy. But who really knows? We all remember Clover field. However this seems to be something different. Something exciting! We will have to wait and see. For now we are stuck with speculation and rumor. I am hoping that it will go back to a time of imagination. Maybe it will be something we did not see coming. Based on the latest trailer it seems that it is either a monster or something else? Here are some questions that need answering.

What is being transported on an unarmed train? What woke up whatever it was?Why did the pickup seem to purposely crash into the train? Why are the kids only semi-afraid? Why are there so many electrical issues? Who is throwing the cars around? The Army seems to know something? Possible Super Heros or Super Villains? Is it something created? Does Super 8 mean “8 super humans”? Is it a prequel to an existing franchise? Is it a transformer? Cannot wait to see it!

Now Witness the Power of a Fully Armed and Operational Conservative Party

The Plan

Canadian Election 2011

Everything that has transpired has done so according to Conservative design. NDP and Liberal Canadian’s walked into a trap. It was I who allowed other parties to believe that they could defeat me. My policies are quite safe from your pitiful little band in parliament. An entire legion of my best policy makers await them. My policies are unavoidable now. It is Canada’s destiny! You, like the people before you, are now, mine! I can feel your anger. You did not think I could win. Your hate has made you powerful. Now, fulfill your destiny and take your place as a Conservative member.

Conservative Party Policy (5 Key Priorities):

  • Creating jobs through training, trade and low taxes.
  • Supporting families through our Family Tax Cut and more support for seniors and caregivers.
  • Eliminating the deficit by 2014-2015 by controlling spending and cutting waste.
  • Making our streets safe through new laws to protect children and the elderly.
  • Standing on guard for Canada by investing in the development of Canada’s North, cracking down on human smuggling and strengthening the Canadian Armed Forces.

Awesome upcoming movie trailer for the Watchmen…

I have to say that I often do not comment on movie trailers, however for some reason this one peaked my interest. Maybe its the music? It could be the style? But for some reason I cannot get enough of it. I am really not sure. I will read the graphic before this movie comes out. But I have to say the trailer alone is now in my top 10 trailers of all time just for the music, style and sheer eeriness of it! Andy MJ /a.k.a The G.T.A Patriot

From Wikipedia:

Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. Originally published by DC Comics as a monthly limited series from 1986 to 1987, it was later republished as a trade paperback, which popularized the “graphic novel” format. To date, Watchmen remains the only graphic novel to win a Hugo Award, and is also the only graphic novel to appear on Time Magazine‘s 2005 list of “the 100 best English-language novels”, an annual feature of the magazine since it was founded in 1923.

Watchmen is set in 1985, in an alternate history of the United States where costumed adventurers are real and the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union; throughout the books, the Doomsday Clock is shown gradually ticking towards midnight. It tells the story of a group of past and present superheroes and the events surrounding the mysterious murder of one of their own. Watchmen depicts superheroes as real people who must confront ethical and personal issues, who struggle with neurosis and failings, and who—with one notable exception—lack anything recognizable as super powers. Watchmen‘s deconstruction of the conventional superhero archetype, combined with its innovative adaptation of cinematic techniques and heavy use of symbolism, multi-layered dialogue, and metafiction, has influenced both comics and film.
