Did wireless providers just get the one finger salute?

Canadians are defiantly getting gouged when it comes to wireless service in Canada. Some would say that there just isn’t enough competition, while others feel it’s just utter greed. Providers say that someone has to pay for infrastructure, yet we know have a Government saying that they have heard enough. Wireless providers have already complained; asking that the CRTC step in and create a standard. It will be interesting to see if the Conservatives decide to get involved and act. Only time will tell!

North Korea has defied International pressure and launched a rocket

The Pentagon has confirmed the rocket launched, but it may have failed before entering orbit.

North Korea on Friday launched its controversial rocket carrying a weather satellite, South Korea’s Defence Ministry and U.S. officials said.

A spokesman for the Defence Ministry in Seoul told reporters at a briefing that the launch at taken place at 0739 local time (2239 GMT) and that South Korea and the United States were checking whether it had been a success.

Abraham Lincoln was a Vampire Hunter! So was Wesley Snipes!

An interesting take on Abraham Lincoln. Apparently he was a Vampire Hunter? I am not sure how good the movie will be, but the dialog is quite amazing. Almost inspirational, but I digress. Enjoy the trailer, because for some reason I did!

Keep it simple stupid Air Rail Link options dead on arrival

It was actually a novel idea and it was nice to see a unity at City Hall. They may have been a bit far reaching, however it would have been nice to see connections at Eglinton and maybe St. Clair. However this was “dead on arrival”. As indicated on NewsTalk1010 this morning, the Government said “what part of express rapid air link to you not understand”.  Well I guess council got it’s answer? In some sense it was nice to see a decision actually made by Metrolinx. It would have been nice for them to offer an opinion and some decisions in regards to Transit City.

On Wednesday council will consider a motion put forward by Councillor Frances Nunziata – a close ally of Rob Ford – that calls for a major revamp of the Air Rail Link planned to run between Pearson Airport and Union Station by 2015.

So who really runs the city of Toronto?

So who really runs the city of Toronto?

It’s interesting times in the city of Toronto. Mayor Mel Lastman had his issues, however we did not seem to have this endless deadlock. The former flamboyant Mayor definitely had his detractors, but we still got things done. Unfortunately Mayor Ford tried to do whatever he wanted and it has not worked out as planned. He had to work with council and it was not good enough to say that he has the support of Toronto citizens. It was all about the approach, in my opinion and unfortunately he has spent a large portion of his his political capital.  Rob Ford is a great person and has done a lot for the city. There is another side to Rob Ford, which is often not talked about. He has done a lot for the community, and continues to do so even as the Mayor. Mayor Ford has helped to control city spending; helping to promote the fact that council must respect the dollar. He has also been a great defender or the suburban areas of Scarborough and Etobicoke. So where does he go from here? I hope he continues to stay in politics, as it’s always good to have a good balance on council. It’s always good to hear opinions on both sides of the spectrum.

Canadians continue to heap on debt

TORONTO - Canadians are continuing to heap on non-mortgage debt, despite warnings about the perils of cheap borrowing from top officials, according to a consumer credit study released Thursday.

Equifax Canada's quarterly consumer credit trends report found that consumer indebtedness, excluding mortgage debt, grew 3.4 per cent year-over-year in the first-quarter.

New loans opened during the quarter were up by about one per cent.

We have a delicate balancing game in Canada. Our economy, when the recession started, seemed to be the darling of the world. Jim Flaherty, our finance minister said Canada's sound banking principles "made a big difference in terms of Canada's reputation in the ..." So what has happened since then? With low interest rates Canadians are racking up their debt, using credit and taking chances. On more than one occasion we have heard politicians and others express their concern about the amount of debt incurred by Canadians. We know at some point interest rates will rise. So the question is, what will happen to Canada when they do?
